Early Head Start Child Development Associate Teacher
Location: EHS Infant & Toddler - Brownwood TX
Reports To: Program Director/Center Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Months: 12 / 220 Days
Position Purpose:
To assist the EHS teacher and cooperate in a supportive role carrying out developmentally appropriate activities. To promote the health, nutrition and education of the children and to attend to their safety and welfare. Must meet requirements per Federal Head Start Performance Standards and any local, state and or agency policies and procedures.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Instruct children and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities to encourage growth in all areas of childhood development.
Develop and maintain trusting relationships with children and families to ensure a successful learning environment.
Develop and implement weekly lesson plans to ensure program compliance.
Complete and submit paperwork (log, report) to document program compliance.
Clean and prepare classrooms regularly to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment.
Complete regular playground and classroom inspection checklists to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment.
Conduct health screenings for Head Start children (vision, hearing, mental health, and physical health).
Plan and conduct parent-teacher conferences to establish and assess progress toward family goals.
Keep Region 15 ESC Early Head Start/Head Start Director fully informed.
Provide opportunity for each child to experience success and reinforce all efforts.
Other duties as assigned by Program Director, Center Director or Executive Director.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
CPR and First Aid Certification Knowledge and skills appropriate for working with infants and toddlers, including development and safety issues
Valid Texas driver’s license or other reliable mode of transportation during work hours required
Proof of current automobile liability insurance required
Ability to follow instructions and uphold the high standard of Early Head Start quality of care according to the Head Start Performance Standards required
Must be service driven Must possess the ability to assume personal responsibility, maintain a positive outlook, and relate to varied populations
Must have the ability to multi-task, work independently, efficiently organize, and communicate effectively with center directors and center staff
Must have strong people skills, possess the ability to work as a team player, enjoy a variety of activities, and possess organizational and time management skills
Must be physically able to participate in moderate to high levels of physical activity, such as, but not limited to, standing for moderate to lengthy periods of time, lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), climbing, stooping, bending, and reaching
Must be able to tolerate contact with cleaning and sanitizing products Must enroll and obtain your Child Development Associate within 18 month from the date of hire
