Early Head Start Center Director



Location: Brownwood, TX
Reports To: Program Director
FLSA: Exempt (Full-Time)
Calendar: 12 Months - 224 Days

This position reports to the ESC Early Head Start Director and is responsible for providing leadership and instructional support to classroom staff to ensure children ages birth to three years progress toward the overall school readiness goal of social competence through a learning environment and varied experiences that help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their individual age and development.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary campus contact for the Early Head Start program and maintain ongoing communication with the Region 15 ESC Head Start/Early Head Start Director, keeping them fully informed of program operations, needs, and concerns.
Oversee daily program operations, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing, CACFP guidelines, and ESC policies; report any non-compliance promptly.
Supervise and support teaching staff through classroom observation, coaching, mentoring, and demonstration teaching; monitor lesson plans and ensure instruction is responsive to children’s developmental needs.
Promote effective classroom management by modeling positive behavior strategies, supporting staff in appropriate guidance techniques, and implementing approved discipline practices.
Ensure appropriate staffing, including maintaining teacher/child ratios, coordinating substitutes, developing staff schedules (including lunch coverage), and delegating responsibilities to aides and clerical staff.
Lead staff meetings and planning sessions to review child outcomes, curriculum implementation, and program improvements; collaborate with ESC consultants on training and professional development.
Coordinate required training for staff and ensure participation in all mandated professional development, certifications, and in-service sessions.
Oversee recruitment, enrollment, and registration processes, maintaining full enrollment and waiting lists; support marketing efforts and community outreach.
Foster a collaborative, child-focused team environment and support staff development, including guiding aides and volunteers in effective practices.
Maintain strong family engagement by communicating regularly with parents, facilitating meetings and events, encouraging participation, and supporting parent-child relationships.
Assist families with goal setting, resource access, and service coordination, including medical, dental, nutrition, and social services; track progress and maintain accurate documentation.
Ensure timely communication with families regarding incidents, meetings, and program activities; maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Oversee health and safety compliance, including daily environment checks, emergency preparedness drills, facility maintenance coordination, and immediate reporting of safety concerns.
Manage meal service operations in coordination with ESC health specialists, ensuring accurate documentation, compliance with CACFP, and timely service.
Maintain accurate program records, including child files, attendance, incident reports, inventory, and required documentation; ensure records are complete and up to date.
Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance, inventory, and supply needs, including submitting purchase requests and ensuring adequate materials are available.
Support services for children with disabilities by coordinating referrals, monitoring IFSP/ECI goals, and collaborating with appropriate specialists and staff.
Facilitate communication among staff, families, and ESC personnel to ensure effective program implementation and service delivery.
Attend and assist with parent meetings, policy committee activities, and other program events, including arranging transportation as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Start/Early Head Start Director.

Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with infants, toddlers, and/or young children birth through 5 years of age required   



Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) or AA in Early Childhood Education
