Child Nutrition Specialist
Location: ESC Region 15 - San Angelo, TX
Reports To: Deputy Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: 2 (ESC Region 15 Salary Schedule)

Position Purpose:
This position reports directly to the Deputy Director and is responsible for coordinating all Child Nutrition activities to ensure efficient and effective program implementation across all phases. Key responsibilities include overseeing professional development, providing technical assistance, and carrying out duties as defined by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring: Work directly with area Food Service Directors and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations governing Child Nutrition programs. Participate in compliance monitoring activities as required by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and USDA.
Budget Management: Manage federal and local budgets related to departmental administrative costs.
Technical Assistance & Program Support: Provide ongoing technical assistance to Contracting Entities (CEs) across all Child Nutrition programs, including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Summer Feeding Programs, and Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP). Support ESC Region 15 clients through modeling, guidance, and program implementation assistance.
Training & Professional Development: Design, coordinate, and deliver individual and group training sessions, including summer workshops, to support professional growth and ensure compliance with program requirements. Make decisions regarding training opportunities and consultant selection.
Corrective Action & Compliance Support: Assist CEs with completing corrective action plans and provide guidance on meeting TDA requirements, including policy and agreement reviews for meal programs.
Program Administration & Evaluation: Administer the Child Nutrition Program in accordance with TDA guidelines. Conduct and oversee menu and nutritional analyses to ensure compliance with required standards, and support audit processes through proper documentation and organization.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong working relationships with Superintendents, Food Service Directors, Business Office staff, and collaborate with external agencies (e.g., public health organizations, USDA partners, vendors) and internal departments to support program alignment and effectiveness.
Conflict Resolution & Personnel Support: Address and resolve conflicts involving stakeholders and provide support to CEs in areas such as staffing needs and job description development.
Strategic & Organizational Support: Contribute to the ESC strategic plan, integrate technology into daily operations, pursue ongoing professional development, and perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Bachelor's Degree in Preferred Area of Study: Institutional Management, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science, Public Health, Education, or Business
Coordinating projects, resources, and programs
Effective and professional communication skills, both written and orally
